i think it has come to the point in the west that the environmental movement has zero credibility.....they are against any development no matter what it is or how safe it is......consequently government pays only lip service to their concerns....sure when they get loud enough they can bully certain politicians into retreating but i think things are changing...especially with Harper in Ottawa....i think when they try to pull their nonsense on him it will only harden his stance and make him push forward with greater determination.....these environmental studies are a mere formality..........if the government decides to proceed and issues the permits then that is the law......true in the past the liberals have loaded the courts with political appointees that sided with the eco terrorists.....but that too is changing and i am not convinced they will get as favorable a hearing when they try to block it as they use to....time will tell
If only that were true Munday. Shelia Legget, was appointed by Harper to chair the hearings on Northern Gateway. Before the hearings even begin next month she has already delayed a decison by one year. Why you ask?? So, every foreign interest group with funding from George Soros or the competition in the Middle East/Venezuela/Nigeria can speak up and say why Canada can`t expand it`s export market.

We need to start speaking out against this kind of interference and corruption. The environmental argument is just an excuse and a flimsy one at that.

indeed, which is why i say no matter who is in Ottawa it never changes.....what would possess a CONSERVATIVE prime minister to appoint an idiot like Legget to head up such a panel ???/ why would a CONSERVATIVE prime minister appoint that idiot as parliamentary budget officer.??? why would a CONSERVATIVE prime minister not appoint more conservative judges to the bench...???..it just does not make sense and furthers my point about the whole system being rotten to the core.....

i absolutely admire mothers determination.....and as stated my basic political philosophy will never change..it's just that i no longer worry about or for that matter even care what happens in Ottawa......i long ago realized that the ONLY thing that will allow conservative forces the opportunity to grasp absolute power and role back socialism is a national or global disaster of biblical proportions.....one that leaves the average citizen so terrified of the alternative they will allow a dictatorial government to override democratic safeguards and rule with an iron fist......i do not see this happening in the near future....
i reached this conclusion as a result of years of studying and watching the insidious creep of socialism ....socialism was not introduced as something (a party) that could be voted in one term and then voted out the next.....no socialism has been allowed (for almost 8 decades) to gradually permeate every facet of our lives.....probably as much as 40% of the population receives some form of direct payment/benefit from the government...most of the other 60% receives some form of benefit from the government...this insidious creeping of government tentacles has been introduced at glacial speed...unnoticed and stealthy.....until it is at the point even conservative and libertarian thinkers would be hard pressed to vote to give up their particular subsidy...that is why it is impossible to bring sanity back into the system via the democratic process......people are only willing to pay "lip service" to the apparent solutions as long as they have a direct vested interest in the government filling their pocketbook

Maggie the ones who call the shots don't reside in Ottawa. They influence both sides of the equation. Its hard for most to grasp this notion I know.
It is tough to tell one that there is a shadow government which in itself is monitored by Vatican interests...the Jesuits Knights Of Malta, Freemasonry etc. This shadowy group is called Power Corporation Li Ka- Shing was a member as was MauriceStrong, PaulMartin, JeanChretien, Pierre Trudeau, Mitchel Sharp and so on... So many others too lengthy to go into here. It coupled with its American counterpart The Carlyle Group go to make of the Trilateral group with  its EU members too. The financial core the Vatican bankers..The Rothschild's. The Bank of England situated on Threadneedle Street...called the Old Lady Of Threadneedle Street, City of London...the banking centre worldwide!

oh boy....you and my mother would get along.....she is convinced that every evil in the world can be traced directly to the Pope and the catholic church.....of course she is in her 80's and thinks John Diefenbaker is prime minister...but oh well we try and humor her

probably correct...but to be a true believer you have to be a little bit naive and young.....there comes a point in everyone's life when they realize you cannot change the system....the corruption and apathy is to deeply ingrained in the nations psyche...at that point you begin to focus on what is important personally and how to protect your assets and family and not worry about the "big picture" .....once you achieve personal independence you look at the world quite differently....................

good guess.....i spent most of my career in the financial industry in general, mostly non-conventional merchant banking and real estate development........somewhere along the way we developed a niche market for moving large private pools of capital from anywhere in the world into protected locations......as well we provided real estate projects for some of this capital to find a home.....we only dealt with very very large pools and projects,,,,we also provided the opportunity and protocol  to exchange large amounts of (cash and bank instruments) from usd to euros or yen or pounds and back etc etc........all private money.

lots more but that is generally an overview......my consulting revolves around providing project financing for certain clients.....not much work required and usually just need to do one project a year...thats all i want anyway

I think after much deliberation, and to my mothers eternal shame, i have become apolitical........meaning i neither care who gets in power or support a particular party...now don't  get me wrong i absolutely hate the left.....with an all consuming passion.....but the extreme left is just an annoyance.....they will never form government in Canada.......my family is very good friends with Harper personally..........he, and several of his past ministers have stayed in (my mothers) home at various times over the years......she eats, breathes and sleeps being a conservative and is well known in the party as she was instrumental in the formation of the Reform party.....
i think the main reason i've reached this conclusion is that there really is very little difference in approach by either mainstream party......liberals are liberals and conservatives are liberals......and as that is not likely to change anytime soon......what difference does it make.......i still think Harper is the far superior leader of the group but their are few or no conservative policies coming out of Ottawa these days....
i think i made the decision some time ago to just worry about me and my family and let all the other baggage go...after all that is really all we can control......our own destiny

pogey is a slang term for unemployment insurance...i have paid all my life.....time to belly up to the trough.........

Ok, I'll bite, you've got us all thinking it so I'll be the one to ask. What do you do for a living when you're not collecting EI?
Ha NTFL, you beat me to it :). I would`ve asked yesterday, but I didn`t know what pogey was.

Actually, I`ll change that, what do you do that you get laid-off for the winter?

ok...so to respond to both your comments here is the general story...i closed down my business in Korea in 2007 and moved back to canada to "semi-retire"........my goal was always that when i retire i would work at a golf course. (i'm a golf addict)... so i was sitting in vancouver bored to death and decided to apply on line to every golf course in Saskatchewan......one of them responded and i went to their resort to work,,,,,,it is seasonal and we get laid off in late October until late april.....i love it......during the winter we can travel and i collect unemployment.....i also do consulting in the winter for cash.......one or two ours a day for really good money......so that's basically it
